Led 32 projects at pioneering usability consulting firm in Princeton, NJ. Specialized in contextual inquiry (field research), interaction design, and UI design. My clients included ADP, ETS, StorageTek, World Bank, and many others. Managed multiple projects at once. Conducted internal and external (lab) usability sessions on nearly every project. Some major projects were:

Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation -Three year nation-wide field research project at 21 client banks and brokerages. Resulted in redesign of core financial services systems, replacing hundreds of terminal screens with a rich client Java-based UI using a combination of AWT and Swing UI components.

Thomas Regional Publishing -Architected and designed multimedia industrial catalogs (CD-ROM/web hybrid with 19 regional editions). Features included patentable rule-based database of revenue-weighted, rotating sponsor ads.

McGraw Hill / CTB -Co-designed Web version of Terra Nova state assessment tests for K-12 students.  Designed navigational system simple enough for young children to quickly master.

ACT - Created computer version of the ACT College Placement test. Innovative features included “zero training” interface that negated advantages experienced computer users would have over other students.

FOUNDER and PRESIDENT – Lehigh Interactive Multimedia                                1989 to 1994

  • Created 12 interactive videodisc training courses for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for floor-level steelworkers. Subjects included operation of a continuous caster machine, basic metallurgy, and maintenance of high-tech steelmaking equipment. Deployed on shop floor so workers could train during downtime.
  • Designed two CD-ROM-based consumer-oriented financial research Visual Basic applications for Dow Jones.
